A "Coup de Grace " For The Commish's White Swashbucklers

The crowed gathered for what was sure to be a real summer sizzler finale.
Observers saw great goaltending from the Rock and Doc. Both stood on their
heads at times leaving the likes of sharp shooters like Jr" buzz, woodman
and White's RD BB and the italian connection line shaking their heads in
disbelief.

The Blue Courageous faced elimination with a must win to force the minigame
to decide the Champion. Blue was not to be denied as Buzz saw Heffernan
capped off a close win with an empty netter 5-3 following Hardy's go ahead
4-3 goal top shelf on Rock who was heavily screened on the play by yours
truly!... At that point Blue was feeling confident as Speed Bratt was still
away on vacation and another nameless regular Blue Defenseman overslept from
playing super DAD to his three kids while his wife remained stranded in
Vegas.......not to be returning until Thursday" and you admitted that to the
Commish?

The mini game ended in a 1-1 tie with up and down action and last minute big
plays from a Eddie C and big Ted Pronger Rein which meant it was time for
every hockey fan's favorite .....The Shoot Out!

Then it happened...what
observers described as a true "Coup de grace" by the veteran Depew whose
shoot out goal on the Dr. Shocked the Tuesday faithful and left the Jolly
Ref speechless, the Blue Courageous praying for the reincarnation of Speed
Bratt to take their final shot.

Depew did what??????

Medieval sword fighting term ....

Coup de grace -the dagger stroke given to merci end the suffering of a
wounded duelist (original to execute a defeated knight in heavy plate armor.

White takes the Championship 2-1 in the shoot out ......but Everyone leaves
Burbank a winner!

8-23-11 White takes game one 6-3

8-23-11 Reading, MA

As hurricane Irene threatened the East Coast hurricane Uretsky threatend the Tuesday parity once again. This week it was the playoffs, and he was determined to stick it to the Blue Team once and for all.

The Tuesday morning league is now two years old and we don't remember the White team winning the Title legitimitely.

Without Murph Sr. there to put pressure on the Commish, he was free to manipulate the rosters and ensure himself a nice and easy 6-3 win in game one of the playoffs.

"Hey, our goalie Derek the Rock is out with a broken mask, so this team responded in a big way," said Uretsky.

Next week all the marbles are on the table. We wonder if Dave Depew's will have trouble starting again like it did last time in the deciding game...

Blue runs up a 9-7 win to kick off August

8-2-11
Reading Mass.

The Commish showed up and tried to inspire his white team by not playing, but he forgot to stack the teams before he left.
What resulted was a 9-7 shootout win for the Blue guys. It was just 2-2 after one, then either the defese, or the goaltending went to pot.

"It was both," said Woody.

The goals came fast and furious especially in the third as Blue cruised over white.

New guy Steve from Accounting had a had trick for the white team in the loss, and he may be the new Murph Jr.

John Ragu had the best goal of the morning, a whistler to the top corner that had everyone looking in awe. Or is it aw ???

7-26, White wins as Commish stays home

White may have spent alot of time on the ground, but heart wins over talent most every time.

This past Tuesday the white team scored one goal in each period to erase goals by Speed and Woody to defeat the blue team 3-2.

Ragu had the game winner in the third. Rick Armand had the other two.

"We don't need the Big Unit to stack our team and win," said Dave Depew. "Winning last week with a bomb squad did not feel good. This week I think I'll be able to sleep."

Wow !!! Commish tucks it to Blue, 10-3 White team on 7-19

After last week's 8-3 loss, you had a feeling something big was going to happen.

When Lil Murph got to the locker room on Tuesday morning, there was a white shirt waiting for him, along with a box of chocolates and some roses.

Despite stacking the white team, it was Speed Bratt who opened the scoring, giving blue an early 1-0 lead. That was about all the good news for the guys in blue.

The white team went up 4-1 after one, then 8-2 after two, before finishing up 10-3. It was white's largest win in Morning Faceoff history. Lil Murph had 4 goals for the winners. Heck even Depew almost had a goal.

"I didn't expect this," laughed the Commish after the game. "But I could get used to this."

7-12 Blue wipes out White 8-3

White managed only one goal in each period, and that's not good enough for a win on Tuesday mornings.

Blue didn't fare much better, eeking out a 3-2 lead after two before exploding for 5 in the third for the 8-3 win.

"That's the difference between us and the blue team," said John Ragu. "We fully expect Mike to make some big changes for next week's game."

"Whatever I do it will be fair," said the Commish. "I'm not going to stack my team just to get a cheap win next week."

Rockets red glare in 11-7 Blue win

It was the day after Independence Day, and the red light was going off like fireworks in a 11-7 final.

18 goals is not uncommon on Tuesday mornings, but with alot of the "good" guys missing, it's usually unlikely.

The game was shortened so we played two halves. It was 5-1 Blue after one, then each team scored six goals in the 2nd half.

Next week we may just play one half and hope the GAA's go down...

When is a 3 goal lead not safe? 6-28 recap

how ironic that the white team was the Bruins and the blue team the Canucks today.

The white team (Bruins) ran out to a 3-0 lead, even getting a goal from Dave Depew.

"It's nice to get my annual goal out of the way before the 4th of July," said Depew.

They kept the blue team hemmed in for minutes at a time, and it looked like an easy win. Then two things happend. Murph Sr. arrived and Bob Love started making some key saves. This allowed the blue team to rally, and eventually take a 4-3 lead late in the third.

"Brendon got all cutesy trying to get Dave another goal and it came back to bite him," said Mark Wood who had two goals.

The Bruins pulled goalie Derek Rockossi, but never got another shot on Love even with the extra man.

What it is about Bruin teams blowing a 3-0 lead?  This is worse than the US soccer team...

On a side note, a disciplinary hearing will be held this week for Mark who flat out checked a guy in the first period.

"It's not like I bit his finger, I just threw him into the boards, I mean, tried to pinch him off," said Mark in his own defense.

Steve Hardy, we need you back.

June 21, Morning Wood is Good

The Blue team had a 3-0 lead going into the late stages of period two, and it looked like Uretsky, Depew and Co. just didn't have anything in the tank. (Where is Bob from Accounting when you need him?)

But a late goal by white cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the third. Two third period goals in a minute span by some guy wearing number 3, and this game was tied at 3's.

Neither team had solid goaltending, but it was good enough to finish regulation tied at 3-3. A shootout ensued.

After a couple of forgetable attempts, it was Mark Wood in his first game back since the Japan floods that scored the winner for the blue team.

"I just shut my eyes and let if fly," said Woody.

"That didn't work for me," commented Lil Murph.
